DEFENCE ARCHIVES UNIT

  • DEFENCE ARCHIVES maintain a SPECIALIST ARCHIVE UNIT at Royal Air Force Holmpton.
  • This includes Film - Files - Documents & Plans relating to Underground Buildings and Bunkers built in the UK since the 1930's to the present day.
  • We offer a specialist consultancy service to both Government and Private bunker owners in the UK.
  • Our team's collective experience is possibly the most extensive and professional service available in the UK on this subject.
  • Our remit includes Engineering - Exhibition - Conservation - Conversion.
  • We also hold a massive amount of exhibition reference material and we operate a fully equipped TV/Dubbing studio for the transfer of archive film/video/photos/audio etc
  • The archive is not open to the public but we welcome enquiries from everyone, and we are able to assist with the majority of enquiries.
  • Please note that we do not hold personnel records.

OUR TEAM

  • Our Team started work back in the 1980's and since then our accumulated knowledge base to date has become second to none.
  • Originally based in the South West the team moved to RAF Holmpton in 2003.
  • During this period we have been involved in a number of major projects including the restoration of the 'WWII Wartime Tunnels' at Dover Castle for English Heritage - The complete restoration of the 'Battle of the Atlantic Wartime HQ' in Liverpool for the City Council - The conversion and exhibition of the 'Scottish Emergency War HQ' near St Andrews in Scotland - The award winning 'Essex County Wartime HQ' near Colchester and the provision and conservation of the historic exhibition at 'Royal Air Force Holmpton' which has also won a number of awards.
  • We have also consulted on a number of 'Bunker' disposals for Defence Estates along with the provision of advice and consultation to organisations who have purchased such sites for conversion, including exhibitions/storage facilities/ IT centres and other uses.
  • From basic research enquiries to complete projects the DAU team prides itself on delivering a first class service, tailored to the client's requirements, delivered on budget and on schedule.
